My theory is that early Pokemon name lists were created even before actual localization of the game started and the poster comes from that time. Unfortunately, the names from this old poster (such as "Nagahis”, “Nagaasp”, “Pudding”, “Custard” etc.) are nowhere to be found.

With my limited knowledge of Japanese and somewhat more extensive knowledge of Pokemon, I have compiled this list of the most notable differences and unknown/obscure facts that could be inferred from the files. Unfortunately, there are no namelists in them (only a final namelist is included separately as an XLS file but it doesn’t have any archived revisions), so if we want to find some prototype names, we need to look for them in the script (and most items and moves never appear in the script, so their preliminary names were not preserved) but all “beta” Pokemon English names can be found in the Pokemon Entries file. The translation files consist only of script text. Third or fourth revision of every file has usually most or all Japanese text already translated but still with noticeable differences compared to the finalized version, with each revision becoming closer and closer to the script as we know it from the retail game. Each file has numerous revisions (all of them are preserved), with the first ones being usually incomplete (consisting mostly of untranslated Japanese text). Each of the files consists of a description of the location each dialogue appears in and the character/object that utters it, original Japanese dialogue and translated English text added below it. It’s the English translation documentation, with the script files divided into 12 files (named 2-0 to 2-9, 2-a and Zukan ). However, I will share some of interesting things that have been found in those files.Īside from game source files, which are now being extensively researched by various entities, the contents of the leaked folders also feature something else, which I feel was somewhat overlooked. Please note that I will not post any links to the leaks due to their illegal nature. While not as exciting as the Spaceworld demo leak from two years ago, as it doesn’t feature that many stuff we haven’t known before, it sure has a few interesting things here and there. It’ll be something else, an #outoftheme entry.Īs some of you probably know, we have recently seen some leaks of Generation I-related data once again.

But this entry won’t be a Pokemon character picture. I will try my best to make up for it (and I think I have something nice round ‘round the corner). I must say sorry for my totally unexcused inactivity in 2020. Hello! I hope you people are all safe and are having a nice Easter break, despite all those circumstances.
